The International School of Quito was established in 1973, in order to offer an international curriculum in English.  The International Section of The American School of Quito has approximately 320 students from Pre-Kinder to Twelfth Grade. Eighty five percent of the student body is made up of Ecuadorian nationals and other students come from a variety of countries, including the United States, Korea, China, India and Latin American countries. The curriculum is taught in English, with the exception of Spanish in all grades, and subjects required by the Ecuadorian Ministry of Education. Students graduating from our program obtain the Diploma from the Ecuadorian Ministry of Education and a U.S. Diploma, accredited by AdvandedED. Additionally, our students may register for the International Baccalaureate Program in Eleventh Grade, and receive the IB Diploma, when successfully meet the requirements of the IB program.

The International Section maintains a small class size (approximately 12-18 students per class), in which individualized, interactive, and personalized learning takes place. We have a Primary and Secondary Section, a Counseling Department with four Guidance Counselors and two specialists in Learning Differences, an ESL Teacher, a Curriculum Coordinator, and two College Counselors. The International Section shares its infrastructure with the National Section: libraries, sports arenas, gyms, music rooms, computer labs, as well as Music and P.E. classes and extra-curricular activities.

The International Section was one of the first schools in Ecuador to offer an International English-immersion education. Personalized Education

We have approximately 320 students from Pre-school through 12th grade. There are two parallels in each grade with a maximum of 18 students. The student-teacher ratio allows us to offer personalized, student-centered, hands-on instruction.

Each section—Pre-school, Primary, Middle School and High School—has a Guidance Department, which includes Counselors and an Educational Psychologist (or Learning Differences Specialist), who are dedicated to helping all our students succeed academically, emotionally and socially.

Students and parents have access to the College Counseling Department, which guides our students through the college application process, as well as in obtaining scholarships to foreign universities.
