Colegio Americano de Quito was founded in 1940, and the International Section was created in 1973. The International Section was one of the first schools in Ecuador to offer an International education with immersion in English. All subjects are taught in English with the exception of the Language and Literature class. The International Baccalaureate Program is the basis of our academic program and our curriculum. Our main objective is student learning. 85% of our experienced and dynamic staff are native English speakers.
Each candidate is assessed individually, with the aim of measuring if the student is ready for the level he/she applies and knowing if the student is prepared both academically and emotionally to enter our institution:
For Nursery to First Grade, the candidate’s level of maturity is evaluated to know if the student is ready for our school environment.
For grades 2nd through 6th, math skills, reading comprehension, and emotional maturity are assessed. The evaluation is done in English. Students are included in their Spanish level, when applicable.
For grades 7th through 12th, verbal, oral and written English proficiency, mathematical operations, problem solving and reading comprehension, as well as emotional maturity are evaluated. All candidates are evaluated in English. Students are included in their Spanish level, when applicable.
